Members of Beleza Ostrava's pedagogy team attended training in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia for the "Your Story" program.
In this program, Roma mothers, who are often unable to read, come to a two-hour "storytellers club" every week for 6 months. A teacher reads a children's book to the mothers each session, beginning with simple stories full of colorful pictures and progressing to classic stories with longer texts. The mothers receive a copy of the children's book to take home.
At the end of six months, the literacy of the mothers has improved, and every family now has a mini library of 24 stories.
